Special Print Offering
At certain times, I will offer a special price on either a print from an older negative that has never been seen as a final print, a new negative that has been taken recently and has not been available previously or a Limited Edition Print offer in conjunction with a special project. To coincide with the start of my web site, I have selected the following two images, taken from two different projects, each of which I have worked on for many years.
12:30 PM, May 19, 2004
The image, titled 12:30 PM, May 19, 2004 was taken at a seldom visited backcountry location on the Colorado Plateau. The very rigorous but enjoyable hike was taken after a Southwest Landscape Workshop with John Sexton and Anne Larson. The image was made with a Tachihara camera using a 47 mm Schneider Super-Angulon lens at f32 and the negative was developed at N-1. The print requires extensive burning and dodging to obtain the desired contrast and tonal values that for me conveyed the energy of this ancient structure and site.
Three Chrysanthemums, 2011
The flower study, titled Three Chrysanthemums, was photographed in the fall of 2011. The plant had been bought in the spring and was grown on the north side of a building, not the best environment for a plant that normally grows in the sun. The three buds received varying amounts of light - the bloom with the darkest markings received the most light and the bloom with very faint markings, the least amount of light. For me, the photograph becomes much more interesting because of the appearance of three different blooms from three different plants. The background was made in the darkroom and the photograph was made with a Tachihara camera, using a 135 mm Nikkor - W lens at f45, with an exposure of one minute.
Both of these photographs are being offered at a special price before they become available to galleries and the general public until April 30, 2012, at which time they will increase to their regular price of $600 for an 11 x 14 print and $800 for a 16 x 20 inch print. The prepublication prices will be $300 for an 11 x 14 inch print and $400 for a 16 x 20 inch print. This is a 50% saving from my normal price scale. The prints are slightly less than these sizes due the cropping to eliminate the white borders and to fit the exact proportions that convey the subject matter in the strongest manner. The photographs are archivally processed by traditional darkroom techniques to current standards and dry mounted and overmatted on 16 x 20 or 22 x 28 museum board.
At this time, I am just getting used to the intricate operations of websites and it would be best to contact me directly by phone at 323 225-1730 or to write me at Ray McSavaney, 1984 North Main Street, #402, Los Angeles, CA 90031. Thank you for your consideration.
